Marquardt Gallery in Łódź announces this International "NUDE" Competition. We have been making efforts to organise the event for several years. This year, after consultation with art galleries in other countries, we have decided to embark on the undertaking. It should be mentioned that we are forerunners in that regard because no other private gallery has not organised an international competition in Poland yet. We hope that the event will become a regular part of the calendar of artistic initiatives home and abroad. Organisers assume that International "NUDE" Competition should be the first event to inaugurate a cycle of competitions organised by our gallery on a biennial/triennial basis.

            The "NUDE" theme was chosen for several reasons. First of all, there is no competition yet that would be open to entrants presenting the theme through various artistic media. The theme of NUDE was taken up already in most ancient cultures. Having aroused lively interest for ages, it still is a very much-used motif. Now, we want to give artists another chance to deal with the theme. We hope that entrants will approach the subject in a novel way, looking at the human body from a quite different aspect, maybe, an aspect not viewed before. Our ambition is to prove that the NUDE theme has not been exhausted yet, and it can still offer new challenges.

            The competition is open to professional artists and art college students at their last two years of education. There are no technical restrictions - works created in any painting or graphic technique, as well as sculptures, photographs, installations and new media, may be entered. There are no requirements as to the format of submitted works. The only eligibility criterion is the NUDE theme.

Competition entry deadline: 15 October 2008.

The main prize - GRAND PRIX: individual exhibition at Marquardt Gallery in Łódź, and in co-operating art galleries in Sweden and Germany.

Awards in each category: painting, graphic art, sculpture, photography, installations, new media.
